Welcoming a Taurus
In one week (or less), we’ll welcome a little Taurean to our family of air and water signs. I think horoscopes and astrology are fun, so I’ve been doing a little “research” about Taurus.  This website is really fun and makes me hope Zee is textbook Taurus. Some of the things I love:  Your little Taurean will be happiest when creating and making something. Whether they...

37 weeks update
Despite the lovely suite a new “symptoms” I enjoyed earlier this week, by yesterday morning they were all gone and I was back to a normal level of uncomfortable.  I had a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon. No major progress, biologically. But Dr. McCarthy “stripped my membranes” (seriously, why do so many pregnancy things sound so gross?). It’s supposed to...

Soon. Please soon.
Back ache. Headache. Nauseous. New “symptoms” tonight. Hopefully Zee will be joining us soon (like a day or so?).

Spoiled
Did you know you have to clean the house pretty much every day? I swear I just did this yesterday! I’m ridiculously spoiled. For realz.

Maternity Leave? What's That?
About six weeks ago I set a date. April 23rd.  It wasn’t an arbitrary choice. The second of two workshops I was on the schedule wrapped up today (the 22nd). My prediction for BB2’s arrival was that he would join us by Friday the 27th (still my prediction). So that would give me a few days of downtime before the newborn joins the family. Because my brain and my body both work in...

Ch-ch-ch-changes
36 1/2 week appointment revealed some important information.  Ultrasounds are fun. We had another this week to make sure the baby is headed in the right direction (and got a few new 3D images, too).  Baby is head down and ready for take off. Dr. McCarthy says, “his head is right there!”  He’s measuring about a week early (average size, etc. for a May 3 due date).  ...

How to Tie Your Shoe
I came across this how to in a magazine when I was pregnant with Bee. It’s come time to share once again.  How to Tie Your Shoe When You’re 9 Months Pregnant 1) Sit on a firm, comfortable surface, right shoe in hand 2) Raise right food and place on left thigh 3) Realize this is impossible 4) Attempt with left shoe and left foot (also impossible). 5) Decide to do this standing...

Last Pages of the Book
Today felt like the beginning of the final pages of this baby growing story. From the moment I woke up, I had belly cramps (I guess Braxton-Hicks contractions is the official term) all day. All day. A couple of times I was bent over in pain. Mostly I just tried not to move. That was easier said than done. I spent the morning wrapping up my event planning workshop, then headed home. The...

A Word on Nicknames & Internet Privacy
I have a wide online network of people - some of which I know and would invite to my home. Some, but definitely not most. As someone who “does” social media, I spend a lot of time online, sharing my life and do so very openly.  However, when it comes to my family, I’m much more private and protective.  I rarely (if ever) use Bee’s full name in any online forum. If...

Learning About Obscure Fruits & Veggies
Comparing a growing fetus to a fruit or veggie is a handy way to make the unknown, known. I don’t really get how big a baby in utero is at 16 weeks, but I do know how big an avocado is. A-ha! The babycenter.com updates arrive in my email every week and sometimes the comparisons are less than clear - mostly because I found myself unfamiliar with the fruits and veggies to which the baby was...

... In a Quiet Moment, You Take my Breath Away
It’s been a busy morning as I work on tying up loose ends, getting documents scanned and sent, prepping for workshops and guest lectures… but for just a moment, I stopped and reclined in the papasan chair. A pause with my hand on my upper belly. I could feel the baby moving. But the moving was different. It wasn’t a kick or a turn or even a hiccup.  Steady, rhythmic. Up and...

Due Date, Schmue Date
Due dates are so arbitrary. In fact, only five percent of women deliver on their due date. And some doctor’s are in favor of getting rid of the dates all together. Due dates are largely used as a guideline for getting tests done at the right time and ensuring things are generally on track.  On my chart, my official 40-week due date is May 11. Because I’m “elderly gravida”...

Oh hai, swollen ankles!

I'm a Woman of Science
At my doctor’s appointment today I learned that Baby Zee is facing the wrong direction. Despite him being head down-hiney up just two weeks ago, he is now breech.  Dr. Reilly (not my regular doc, but pinch hitting today for Dr. McCarthy, who was in surgery), says reassuringly, “most babies will turn themselves around!” But in the next breathe says, “Schedule an appointment...

Funny Things
Bee: (from the bathtub) Mom! Mom! My wiener is straight! Come see!
Me: Um, yep. You're right.
Bee: Why does it do that?
Me: I don't know, hon. Wieners are funny things.
